User GroupOne role of the WERS 2004 Information and Advice Service is to encourage the exchange of ideas, problems and solutions between users of the WERS 2004 data. To that end, WIAS operates an e-mail discussion list that is open to postings from users and also organises six-monthly user group meetings. The e-mail discussion list is used to advertise developments in the WIAS service. However, it can also be used by members of the list to post general or specific questions about the data, which might usefully be answered by other users. It also serves as a means of advertising WERS-based research. User Group meetings are scheduled to take place at six-monthly intervals. Meetings follow the traditional format of a one-day event comprising presentations from the WIAS team to outline developments, plus presentations from invited speakers on methods of analysis or WERS 2004 based research. The fourth user group meeting took place on Wednesday 27th February 2008 at the University of Sheffield. This meeting was held jointly with the Work, Pensions and Labour Economics Study Group (WPEG). Further details. The third user group meeting took place on Friday 26th October 2007 at the University of Warwick. Further details. The second User Group meeting took place on Friday 16th March 2007 at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research in London. Further details. In order to take advantage of the WERS theme at the ERU Annual Conference in Cardiff, the first User Group meeting was combined with that conference. The WIAS team spoke at the conference about developments and additions to the services they are providing. They also ran a lunchtime session providing an introduction to the analysis of WERS data. Note: The WERS 2004 user community is intended to include those with first-hand experience of analysing the data, those making use of the tabulation services and all other interested parties, such as the supervisors of PhD students using WERS 2004. All are welcome to join the mailing list and to attend User Group meetings. |
